Speaker: Dr. Andrew Ashton on CoastAl Resiliency in Falmouth

Our speaker topic for this year’s meeting is the Report on Coastal Resiliency Falmouth Massachusetts approved last year by the Town of Falmouth Select Board. We are delighted that our speaker will be one of the members of the task force which developed this report: Dr. Andrew Ashton, Associate Scientist with Tenure at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI), who has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University and a PhD in Earth and Ocean Sciences from Duke University.

His expertise is in Coastal Geomorphology, which is the study of the development and evolution of the coast as it acts under the influence of winds, waves, currents, and sea level changes. Dr. Ashton will make a 15-minute presentation and then respond to audience questions. In today’s environment, all residents of Davisville will find this report and discussion of great interest and relevance. Be sure to be in attendance!

Meeting Agenda

In addition, at the Annual Meeting, we will receive a written report from last year’s speaker, Peter McConarty, Head of the Town of Falmouth Department of Public Works, on the status of the Menauhant Bridge and Beach Nourishment Project – the bidding process, status, next steps, and traffic implications.

The agenda will also include:

  • The annual president and treasurer reports

  • Election of proposed officers and board members

  • Open time for questions and answers

Please don’t miss this meeting – all of these topics should be important to you as a resident of Davisville!

You will note that the Davisville Civic Association membership fee has been raised from $10 to $20 annually to enable us to do more with the Association in future years. Our neighboring associations’ membership fees are $20 (East Falmouth) and $30 (Falmouth Heights/Maravista) per household. You can download the Membership Form and send with your check for $20 to: Davisville Civic Association; P.O. Box 353; East Falmouth, MA 02536.

GOOD NEWS: Davisville Road Extension Beach

On Friday, June 17, 2022, at the request of the Davisville Civic Association, the Town of Falmouth Department of Public Works, with the support of the Falmouth Conservation Commission, completed a project to again make the Davisville Road Extension Beach accessible to the ocean. In recent years, due to winter storms and coastal erosion, it was not possible to access the ocean from this beach. Below, you will find a picture of the current access from beach to ocean. We hope you will enjoy this access this summer!! On behalf of all the Davisville residents, we have extended our profound thank you and appreciation to Peter McConarty and the Department of Public Works for their responsiveness to our request.
