Beach Nourishment & Groin Installation
Menahaunt West Beach
November 2019 – Falmouth Town Meeting, amidst spirited discussion, approved $1,485,000 for Menahaunt West Beach nourishment and installation of groins.
Impact of Sea Level Rise
A common theme among the discussions regarding the new Menahaunt Bridge and Menahaunt Beach West Nourishment and Groin Installation projects is the response to the issue of rising sea levels, generally, on Cape Cod and in areas around Davisville.
In late November 2019, the Town of Falmouth Board of Selectman received a presentation on rising sea levels, prepared by the Woods Hole Group. Their report noted that throughout greater Falmouth, including our Davisville area, the most vulnerable single entity is the road system. Cited among the most at risk areas are Menahaunt Road adjacent to the Bournes Pond inlet, Surf Drive, and the drawbridge in Woods Hole.
In the discussion, a town official noted that with beach nourishment, the life of the Menahaunt Road leading to and from the new bridge would have an expectancy of greater than fifty years.
